Majorca leads summer hotel occupancy levels

Majorca is enjoying one of its best ever tourism seasons, as hotel occupancy, overnight stay and price increase data show.
In June, Majorca beat all records, having been the tourist zone of Spain which led occupancy levels - 81%. This trend has continued into this month and will also continue in August and September, with the latter month set, once more, to be the most profitable in terms of expenditure and revenue across the country.  And, as the Bulletin has been reporting, Spain, in particular the Baleaerics, is the most popular late booking destination because of the unrest in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Figures out yesterday revealed that One in three (33%) plan a holiday to the Balearics, mainland Spain, or the Canary Islands.
Playa de Palma
The main tourism centre in Majorca is recording average hotel occupancy levels of 95% thanks to the good performance of the national and German markets.
Businesses there are expressing satisfaction with spend and profit levels compared with previous years.
Alcudia
In Alcudia and Can Picafort the increase in British and Scandinavian tourism has triggered higher levels of bookings across the range of accommodation, both regulated and tourist rentals (not all of which are regulated).
The current balance is positive with improved performance in both tourism centres.
Palmanova
The season began with uneven levels of occupancy but in the past few weeks these have returned to what they were last year, with the expectation being that they will be surpassed at the end of this month and in August and September.
An unknown factor is how things will pan out with Magalluf’s Punta Ballena as a result of the council’s determination to stamp out “drinking” tourism.
Cala d’Or
Record figures here in terms of numbers of visitors, occupancy and tourist spend.
The two main markets - German and British - are growing as are others. Rehabilitation efforts in the resort appear to be working to perfection.
Playa de Muro
There is general satisfaction among different sectors of the local tourism economy - hotels, restaurants and retail.
There is higher spend and if this continues its current positive trend, the resort can anticipate having registered one of its best seasons.
Palma
The wide variety of hotel and strong demand from the Scandinavian and Spanish markets in particular have raised performance levels compared with previous years across the whole of the city’s hotel offer
