Jailed Moroccan “raped” another Briton in Magalluf

The Moroccan waiter who was sentenced to 23 years in jail for the rape of British model and barmaid Cheryl Maddison in January 2013, was yesterday sentenced to a further nine years after being found guilty of having raped another British tourist in the resort two years  after having  sexually attacked Maddison.
The court heard during the trial held in Palma in 2013 that Cheryl Maddison had been   left for dead.
The Moroccan waiter Mohamed Fadel El Anssari was found guilty by a panel of judges at the Provincial Court in Palma and sentenced to 11 years in prison for sexual assault and 12 years for attempted murder.
His victim, Cheryl Maddison, from County Durham, who waived her right to anonymity, was raped and stabbed with a kitchen knife when 31-year-old El Anssari followed her home in Magalluf.
The attack took place just days after she had arrived to work in a bar on the island in May 2008.
The 25-year-old suffered multiple stab wounds and a collapsed lung, and the onslaught only came to an end when she pretended to be dead. Police investigating the attack arrested El Anssari in July 2011.
He confessed to police and an investigating magistrate that he had forced his way into Maddison’s home, forced her to have sex and stabbed her with a knife.
Forensic officers were able to match traces of his saliva on a Marlboro cigarette with blood taken from a sheet and a T-shirt found near the crime scene.
The judges said that, after hearing evidence from a DNA specialist, there was only a one in a trillion chance that the match was wrong. Maddison, who has since gone on  to  work as a model,  came out to Majorca  to give evidence in court against her attacker in January 2013 “to see that justice was done” she said at the time.
The investigation into the rape of the British holiday maker has been on going ever since the Moroccan’s arrest for his attack on Cheryl and again, sources close to the investigation said that DNA traces proved vital to closing the case and securing a conviction.
El Anssari has served two years of what is now a 31 year sentence.
