Town hall wants cruise ships for Cala Ratjada

Capdepera’s  Town Hall now has an administration that is ruling in minority. PSOE’s Rafel Fernández became the new mayor without there being any pacts but with the benefit of having been the most voted-for party.
Indeed, PSOE increased its share of the vote and its number of councillors by two, so governing in minority doesn’t hold any fears for him.
His new council team is a blend of youth and experience and one of the principal areas of work he wants his administration to pursue is that of attracting cruise ships to the port in Cala Ratjada.
Tourism as a whole is one of the most important areas of work for the town, but on cruises, Fernández has been saying to the ports authority that small cruise ships could dock in Cala Ratjada while still preserving the port’s appearance.
He believes that tourists arriving at Cala Ratjada would be able to enjoy its  charming maritime ambience, exemplified by the fishing boats. He also notes that some small cruise ships anchor offshore and transfer passengers to shore.
For this reason the town hall would look at using craft in the port to make such transfers.
A further priority is to open up a whole new segment of sports tourism which would also benefit residents.
“Limiting seasonality is the key,” says Fernández. “Therefore, we will be creating hiking routes and a cycling path in the municipality.”
Pacts with parties from the left, i.e. Més and Guanyem, had not been possible.
“We did not arrive at a pact because there was too little time to meet all conditions to do so.
“We sought agreements but there were small differences in terms of programmes and so areas that prevented negotiations from coming to fruition.” The door, he says, however, is always open to any party which might want to be incorporated into the administration.
