The Balearics division of AEMET, the national meteorological office, took to social media at the weekend to warn of high levels of ultra-violet (UV) radiation that will occur this week. AEMET is predicting that there will be maximum UV levels on account of the clear skies that are forecast and has therefore issued recommendations for skin protection, advocating the regular and abundant use of sun creams with a minimum factor of 15 and a reduction of the time exposed to the sun during the hours of the day when the sun is at its strongest. Other advice includes staying in the shade, wearing a t-shirt or other top, covering the head and protecting the eyes with wraparound sunglasses. AEMET also stresses the importance of protection for babies and young children.
