Summer season "will be better than last year’s"

JULIAN AGUIRRE

In line with forecasts coming from tour operators and travel agencies, Jose Manuel Soria, the national minister for tourism, industry and energy, is predicting that this summer’s tourism season will be better than last year’s.
Speaking yesterday, he said that increases for this summer will make Spain the world leader in terms of its capacity to compete for tourism, the country already being second by tourist spend and third by number of visitors.  Soria noted that although France attracts the most tourists – more than 80 million a year – the tourist spend is lower than in Spain.
In 2014, tourist spend in Spain from 65 million tourists was 63,000 million euros: 10,000 million more than in France.
Spain has attained, for the first time, top place in the index of  Travel and Tourism Competitiveness, which covers factors such as cultural resources and adoption of digital technologies. Spain has also joined the “Silk Road” of the World Tourism Organization, through which the country will be promoting itself to priority markets such as China.
