Green light for Playa de Palma reformation

The reformation of the Playa de Palma is finally going to go ahead after it was approved last week, the Balearic Minister for Tourism, Jaime Martinez, announced yesterday.Matinez, accompanied by key members of the consortium including the Mayor of Palma, Mateo Isern, Palma Councillor for Tourism and manager of the Playa de Palma Consortium, Alvaro Gijon and the Council of Majorca’s Urban Development chief, Mauricio Rovira, said yesterday that the plan, which has had to overcome a series of problems, is now ready to be carried out.
The Minister explained that 469 million euros is going to be invested in the reformation of the resort, 365 million euros will come from the private sector while the government will stump up the rest.
According to Martinez, of the 140 hotels along the Playa de Palma, once the reformation has been completed, 70 percent will be either four or five star establishments.
Currently, most of the hotels are three star, but the objective is that 60 percent will be four or four star plus and ten percent will be five star and just 30 percent will remain three star.
