Alarm bells begin to ring after spate of small forest fires

The forest fire and emergency services are now on  red alert following a spate of small forest fires over the past few weeks.
After an unusually dry winter and with temperatures now forecast to continue rising, the conditions are perfect for bush fires and teams of spotters are on duty every day as part of the fire prevention campaign.  However, yesterday, a level one blaze was reported at midday in Galilea, Puipunyent.
Sources for IBANAT (The Balearic Nature Institute) a total of 16 specialist fire fighters were involved in battling  the blaze with support from a helicopter and a mobile water tank which were needed because of the isolated location of the fire which did get dangerously close to a number of houses whose owners were put on stand by to be evacuated.
Ibanat confined that the fire had been brought under control  by 3.30p.m which is when fire fighters set about extinguishing the blaze.
