The Duke of Palma, Iñaki Urdangarin, husband of Princess Cristina, yesterday became the first of the 16 suspects in the Noos corruption case, to have submitted his case for the defense.
All 16 suspects, which includes the Princess herself, have until 3p.m on 8 April to present their defense cases to the investigating judge, Jose Castro, here in Palma.
In total, the 16 suspects have been ordered to pay 61.3 million euros in civil bail and 2.6 million of that corresponds to Princess Cristina, the youngest sister of King Felipe VI of Spain.
Princess Cristina will be the first direct member of Spain’s Royal Family to testify in court while facing preliminary charges for a crime, Spain’s royal household confirmed.
Urdangarin already faces preliminary charges in the same case.
He testified in February of last year about his business dealings and the alleged diversion of public funds that have been at the centre of a judge’s investigation.
The princess and her husband, through their legal teams, have denied any wrongdoing.
