George Osborne’s Budget has been welcomed by the British travel industry which believes it will encourage people to spend more this year.As evidence of rising confidence in an improving economy, Britons are set to increase their household budget for annual holidays to an average £5,500, spending 8% more than last year.
The annual TripBarometer, recently published by TripAdvisor, shows increasing consumer confidence in most of the markets surveyed, finding that four in ten travellers around the world plan to spend more on holidays in 2015.
Spain had a record-breaking year for tourism in 2014 with some of the highest visitor numbers ever recorded.
As Britain’s number one destination for family summer holidays, Spain is set to repeat last year’s stellar performance, with more visitors committing to spending more money in the country throughout 2015.
Illustrating difficult economic circumstances, the survey showed Russia and Greece to be the only markets where travellers are planning to decrease their holiday spend. Buoyant tourism is great news for property investors in Spain. With property bargains still available, heavily discounted against the peak of 2007 and a healthy demand for holiday accommodation, the outlook is very encouraging for the British market in Spain this year.
ABTA has welcomed the budget despite APD “disappointment”.
