The out-going PPMayor of Palma, Mateo Isern, said yesterday that the outlook for Palma is “very positive.”
Isern, who is not standing for reelection after he and the President of the Balearics, Jose Ramon Bauza had a falling out last year, highlighted the fact that unemployment in the capital has fallen oven the past 29 consecutive months.
But, he said that as long as there are people out of work in Palma “we will continue to try and encourage job creation, but the figures are positive and indicate a change in cycle for the city.”
At the end of last month, there were 33,590 people out of work in Palma but that figure is expected to contract sharply over the next few months as the summer tourist season draws nears.
However, last month the rate of unemployment fell by 808, in comparison to January and the total number of people without a job in Palma was 3,263 or 8.9 percent less than February last year.
