Gale force winds batter Majorca

As forecast, Majorca was battered by gale force winds and heavy rain in the early hours of yesterday morning.And not only was substantial damage caused by the gale force winds, over night temperatures took another  dive.
In Bunyola, for example, temperatures just about remained about freezing, although the strong winds added to the chill fact.
And, it was in Bunyola where the strongest winds were recorded gusting at 120 kilometres per hour.
In Capdepera and PortoColom, gusts reached 96 kilometres per hour while in Campos gusts peaked at 83 kilometres per hour. The 112 emergency centre reported yesterday that, by 1pm, it had responded to 22 weather related incidents, the most of them involved fallen trees or other objects blown on to main roads.
The bulk of the incidents happened in Palma followed by Llucmajor and Calvia where serious damage was caused to a number of parked cars by trees brought down by the strong winds.
