Sales of recreational vessels in Majorca and Minorca out stripped the rest of Spain last year and further growth is forecast for this year.The lifting of the controversial and discriminatory matriculation tax last year and the easing of day rate taxes for foreign flagged vessels operating in local waters has eased the fiscal pressure on the nautical industry and the biggest winner was the Balearics.
According to the Federation of Nautical Business Associations (Fadin), 509 recreational vessels were sold in the Balearics last year.
The Secretary- General of Fadin, Miguel Guarner said yesterday that sales rose on a monthly basis in comparison to 2013 and that is mainly thanks to further growth in the tourist industry in general and nautical tourism in particular.
But, he also said that there was a marked improvement in the domestic market.
