President Bauza invites the Pope to Majorca

The President of the Balearics, Jose Ramon Bauza, yesterday joined the Bishop of Majorca Javier Salinas and a group of some 100 pilgrims, who have this week travelled to Rome for a public audience with the Pope and also to celebrate the canonisation of the Majorcan writer and philosopher Ramon Llull who died 700 years ago.
Already in Rome was the Vice-president of the government, Antonio Gomez, the President of the Council of Majorca, Maria Salom and the Mayor of Palma Mateu Isern.
And yesterday morning, during the public audience with the Pope in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican, President Bauza invited the Pope to come to Majorca for the canonisation of Ramon Llull which is just one of the events being carried out this year to mark and celebrate the 700th anniversary of his death.
“I said to him that it would be a great honour and very important if he could come to Majorca for the canonisation of Ramon Llull, not only because it is the 700th anniversary of his death but also because  it is also what the people would want,” Bauza said.
