After consecutive years of decline, the construction sector in the Balearics showed signs of improvement last year, with property refurbishment works helping boost the sector.
Palma.—Property refurbishments went up by 40 percent in 2014 compared with the previous year, representing a total of 165 projects.
These involve all types of works that require planning.
Figures were revealed yesterday by the Balearic Construction Association, whose manager, Manuel Gomez, explained that there were further positive signs, even though they do not show on the official figures.
“These numbers include projects that need official planning.
“The number of minor refurb works in local properties also went up but it’s hard to reveal an exact figure.”
The sector has also been boosted by the considerable investment made by the tourist sector.
Hotel, restaurant and bar owners increased their investment by over 90 percent last year, mainly in Pollensa, the Playa de Palma, Manacor, Son Servera, Palma, S’Arenal- Llucmajor, Capdepera, Alaior and Santa Maragalida.
