Palma.—The population of Palma is continuing to grow at a steady rate although the demographics of the capital have changed.
At the start of the year, 5,135 more Spanish nationals were living in Palma along with 1,496 more European Union citizens.
There are now a total of 42,635 European Union citizens living in Palma, 40,287 from non EU countries and 344,989 Spanish nationals taking the total population for Palma to 427,911.
However, there has been a contraction in the size of the African and South American communities.
Last year, 4,439 non European Union residents left Palma.
741 Colombians left, followed by 682 Bolivians and 660 Ecuadorians left Palma, the majority deciding to return to South America as a result of the recession.
