The Balearic 112 emergency center has literally been snowed under with calls over the past few days because of the severe weather conditions.Between 7am on Wednesday and 7am yesterday morning, the centre fielded 2,239 calls and responded to 395 various incidents, nearly 50 of those weather related.
Yesterday morning, residents in Alaro, Santa Maria, Consell, Esporles, Valldemossa, to name just a few, woke to a white blanket of snow over their homes after temperatures in some parts dropped to -2ºC over night.
The Council of Majorca confirmed that traffic along five roads in the mountains remained complicated with a number of stretches still closed as snow ploughs and gritters continued trying to clear the roads.
And, little improvement can be expected today.
