The cold front really did take a grip yesterday with temperatures falling to freezing and snow closing roads.Snow, strong winds and rain began battering the Balearics and the rest of the country yesterday and the bad weather is expected to last until at least next Tuesday and will continue to affect all of the mainland and the Balearics as another highly active cold front sweeps across the country tomorrow pushing temperatures down to -3ºC in the islands.
Yesterday, a number of sections of roads in the Sierra de Tramuntana mountain due to rain were closed by the Council of Majorca, in particular the stretch between the Sa Calobra junction and the ses Barques viewpoint. Parts of the road up to Lluc from Caimari were also closed to traffic as gritters worked at clearing the snow.
In Bunyola, temperatures over night fell to -2ºC and the 85 kilometres per hour northerly winds only added to the chill factor.
