Balearic traffic authorities are cracking down on illegal taxi drivers and passenger carriers at Son Sant Joan airport in Palma, with reports revealing yesterday that 2, 617 inspections were made last year, some 800 more than the previous year.
The news is set to please licensed taxi drivers who over last summer more than once showed their displeasure at the lack of action by the authorities, complaining that illegal taxi drivers were “stealing” their business. Controls made last year were focused mainly on tachographs, licenses and weight excess. But this year the authorities have confirmed this week that controls will be even stricter.
