Unemployment figures in the Balearics contracted last year but they are still a major cause for concern for the local government. By 31 December there were still 147, 111 people  in the region looking for a job, 5,6 percent less than the previous year but over 65 percent  more than in 2007, when the recession hit Spain.
Workers’ unions have urged the local government to present more plans and solutions to tackle the situation.
“The reality is that unemployment numbers are still extremely high.
“There are a lot of people out there who want to work but just can’t find a job. The work that is available is not enough, it is of poor quality and they are  either part time or temporary positions.
