THERE are growing calls for the Infanta Cristina, sister of King  Felipe, to be stripped of her royal titles as she prepares to stand trial for alleged tax fraud relating to her husband´s business dealings. Political parties in Palma say that she should no longer use the title Duchess of Palma de Mallorca. Now, I know that this case has done Spain or its royal family few favours but let us remember that the Infanta has been found guilty of no crime. Infact, she hasn´t even gone to trial yet and if an appeal, which is expected to be lodged, is successful she could even avoid court completely. There are certain sections of the Spanish judiciary who do not believe that she should go on trial. Former King Juan Carlos, once said that everyone was equal in the eyes of the law. And this is certainly the case. She has rights and until a judge decides on her alleged guilt then everyone should hold fire.  She should be allowed to keep her royal titles until the case goes to court. At the moment everyone from the media to political parties and the general public are calling for drastic action. But I say that we should wait until a judge hands down a verdict. The Infanta´s case is expected to go to trial later this year. Her brother, King Felipe, said in his Christmas message that there will be zero tolerance towards corruption amongst public officials.  This is the right way forward. But we can´t make judgements on anyone until a judge has given his or her verdict.
