Opposition lets fly over winter flight situation

Palma.—The problems Air Europa is having in increasing its inter island and domestic flight services to and from the Balearics has prompted opposition parties to call on the local government to get involved and help resolve the situation  of, not only a lack of inter island flights, but winter flights in general.
Air Europa has complained that the Ministry for Development has rejected at least 60 percent of its applications for take off and landing slots at Balearic airports and wants the local government to help broker some kind of deal with Madrid or else, as the Bulletin reported yesterday, the airline claims it will be unable to operate extra flights.
However, yesterday, the Balearic government came under further fire from the opposition Socialist party and the eco-nationalist party MES for failing to show any real interest in the problem.
Both parties expressed their concern over the lack of winter flights, both domestic and international, and the sharp increase in the cost of flights between the Balearics and the mainland over the festive period.
