Palma.—The Balearic government is launching a massive tourism promotion plan across the globe next year ahead of the opening of the new Palma Convention Centre which is being built at the moment.
The promotion plan was announced yesterday by the Balearic President Jose Ramon Bauza and the Balearic minister for tourism, Javier Martinez.
“We will be carrying out 158 different promotion drives for the islands, a 200 percent increase on 2009,” said Bauza yesterday. The Balearic government want to spread the word that the new congress centre will soon be opening and try and cash in on the lucrative convention market.
This will involve attending many of the specialised trade fairs across Europe and even further. The convention centre was first announced by Balearic leader Jaume Matas, almost seven years ago. However, a series of funding problems meant that building work was delayed and even halted on numerous occasions. Initially it was thought that the convention centre would never be completed.
