Preparations for Majorca Soccer Tournament 2015 have kicked off

Belarus, the defending champions.

The countdown has begun to the fourth Majorca Football Tournament for security personnel in Santa Ponsa next year.
This week, Harry Engels, the Vice-president of the World Police Indoor Soccer Tournament, which celebrated its 32nd edition this year in Holland and, as media partners, the Bulletin was there to cover the massive international sporting event, and President of the Mallorca Football Tournament was in Palma with his partner, Hans Emde, President of the World Police Indoor Soccer Tournament,  to get the ball rolling and kick off planning for next year’s tournament.
In association with Suzanne Lyons and Joan Sureda, the Sales and Marketing Manager and the Director General of Viajes Adramar, respectively, work is now underway on staging three international five-a-side soccer tournaments next year.
The main event will take place between 7 and 11 May in Santa Ponsa.
Harry has always liked early May because he feels it gives Santa Ponsa an early boost to the tourist season because some 2,000 footballers and participants from all over the world  are expected to compete in the “police” tournament which is in fact open to all security, customs, military and  government personnel.
So far, some 100,000 invitations have been sent out across the world in 16 different languages and teams are already signing up.
The Chinese, for example, which sent a delegation to the tournament in Majorca earlier this year, is expected to be sending a number of teams. At least one team, is expected to come to Majorca from Japan along with teams from the Middle East, the United States, South America, Eastern and Western Europe and  mainland Spain, not to mention the local Majorcan teams.
Running simultaneously will be the first of two amateur tournaments  which are open to all types of recreational, corporate, and social club teams etc.
The second amateur tournament will be staged in Santa Ponsa between 4 and 8 June and all of the events will be covered by the Daily Bulletin and its sister papers, as the event’s  media sponsor.
The tournaments also have the full backing and support of Calvia Council and the ATB, Balearic Tourism Agency, because of the global promotion the tournaments gives to Majorca and also the large number of people they attract to the island at the very start of the tourist season.
What is more, most of the teams either come a week earlier or stay on after the tournament for a holiday.
And, due to the increase in demand from teams for next year, more hotels in Santa Ponsa are having to open earlier and that will lead to local businesses having to do the same.
