Palma.—The fishing industry in the Balearics is on the verge of a major breakthrough after the Agriculture and Environmental department confirmed yesterday they are reviewing fishing laws in order to boost the sector.
The two new proposals, which were presented to fishing authorities yesterday by the Environment Minister, Biel Company, will allow local fisherman to welcome tourists aboard their vessels and take them on fishing trips.
This new “fishing tourism” is seen by the local government as a way to boost a sector which has struggled over the years, both due to the recession as well as restrictive national and international fishing laws.
