“Safety is the key for tourism” government told

Palma.—The Vice-president of the Playa de Palma Hotel Federation, Jose Fernandez de Alarcon, told the central government delegate to the Balearics, Teresa Palmer, yesterday that safety and security is absolutely vital to the tourist industry.
The meeting between the two was also attended by the regional chief of the National Police, Cristobal Villalonga and the head of the Citizen Security Brigade, Alfonso Jimenez, and the four looked back over this summer season and the success of the fight against crime along the Playa de Palma.
This season, as part of the new Good Behaviour legislation introduced by Palma City Council, the police presence  in the resort was larger than it ever has been and, according to security chiefs, the operation, which involved more police on the beat at night,  proved a success.
