Fourteen municipalities have now banned bullfighting on Majorca

FOURTEEN municipalities on Majorca have now banned bullfighting in a clear example of the changing face of Spain.
The latest municipality to join the campaign was  Campanet but it was a close-run thing. At a council meeting on Monday night the four councillors from the Majorcan Socialist Party (PSM) voted for the motion, the three councillors from the Spanish Socialist Party abstained and the four councillors from the Partido Popular voted against. In the end it was the Mayor, whose vote is worth double, who broke the deadlock and the motion was approved.
Mallorca Sense Sang (Majorca Against Blood Sports) said in  a statement yesterday:“in the space of four months bullfighting has been outlawed in 14 municipalitities and we have collected 60,000 signatures calling for an island-wide ban.”
