THE curtain comes down on Mallorca Cricket Club´s long association with Magalluf today. Mallorca Cricket Club now have to find a new home because their present ground is being redeveloped into a luxury hotel and residential complex. It is a sad day because the Cricket Club is the focal point for expat life on the island. It is sad day because the Cricket Club has done so much for the local community and for tourism in Calvia because visiting teams from Britain provide vital revenue for the area during the high and low seasons. I sincerely hope that they will be able to find a new home quickly because Majorca needs its Cricket Club. Let us remember that Minorca and Ibiza have their own clubs and ground so the sooner we get the Club resettled the better. I have heard that the Club are already in talks as regards a possible new home in Santa Ponsa, but negotiations are still at an early stage. I think I speak for the whole of the English speaking community when I wish the Cricket Club the best for the future and offer then our sincere thanks for their hard work over the years. Not only have they hosted the most successful expat event in Spain, the annual Bonfire Night, but they have also acted as the headquarters for the English speaking community. While not all expats have visited the club or even attended the Bonfire night I am sure that they would all agree that it was nice to know that the Cricket Club was there and serving the community.
