50 percent increase in families struggling to make ends meet

Palma.—To mark “World saving day”, which is to be  held on 31 October, according to results of a survey carried out by the insurance and finance company,  Kelisto, 48.76 percent of Balearic homes are still finding it a great struggle to make it to the end of the month.
Since the recession hit in 2008, the number of households having difficulties in making ends meet has risen by 15.3 percent, making the Balearics the fifth toughest place to live in Spain.
What is more, the percentage of families who have no money set aside for any unexpected out goings has risen by 22.1 percent.
And, since the crisis struck six years ago, the percentage of families which have been forced to delay their mortgage, rental, gas and  community payments has increased by 16.2 percent, nearly ten percent above the national average.
What is more, 44.4 percent of Balearic families have been unable to afford a holiday, not even for a week, a rise of 19 percent since 2008.
