Palma.—The Local and National Police forces mounted a joint operation in the Playa de Palma on Wednesday night in a bid to crackdown on illegal street trading.
The operation began at 11pm and continued until 2.30am with the police targeting the popular tourist spot of calle Jamon and neighbouring streets.
The raid was part of the summer long operation to maintain law and order in the resort and as a result of the police action which ended in the early hours of yesterday morning, 50 individuals were processed by the police and one was arrested for being in the country illegally.
The majority of the others were warned against illegal street trading and various items were confiscated by the police.
Police sources said that even though there have been no serious problems such as street violence in the Playa de Palma this summer, illegal street trading has become a major problem and one they have had to keep continuously under control.
Despite this recent raid, there are still hundreds of illegal street traders who continue to operate in the resort.
