A specialist  Guardia Civil narcotics unit from Madrid launched an early morning anti drugs operation in Magalluf and Palmanova yesterday.

Palma.—At least nine members of a criminal gang, many of them said to be British, have been arrested and spent all of yesterday being questioned by the security services after a 30-strong specialist Guardia  Civil narcotics unit swooped on a number of properties in and around Magalluf early yesterday morning.
The anti drugs operation, which also involved members of  the Guardia Civil based here in the Balearics,  was the result of months of investigating the narcotics market in the resort, in particular in calle Punta Ballena, and the green light to go was given to the Guardia Civil, all heavily armed and wearing helmets, ski masks and bullet proof jackets, at 7am.
Sources close to the operation said that yesterday’s actions were in a way  related to the on going investigating into alleged police corruption in Magalluf and had been in the planning for some time.

Battering rams
The Guardia Civil, using special rams to batter down front doors, swooped on a number of apartments in Punta Ballena and elsewhere in Magalluf and Palmanova.
The organised gang was also suspected of falsifying documentation and the Guardia Civil apparently confiscated drugs, fake documents and cash.
A number of expensive luxury cars were also seized  during the operation which caused a major stir and attracted a great deal of attention from local residents.
