The parliamentary group of opposition Socialists yesterday submitted a white paper calling for the expansion of El Molinar yacht club to be stopped.
Palma.—With the Balearics proving to be the most popular nautical destination in Spain so far this year, demand for more moorings and better yacht clubs is growing.
However, plans to expand the yachts club in El Molinar and redevelop the Club de Palma on the Paseo Maritimo are causing a great deal of controversy.
100 new berths
Yesterday, Socialist MPs said that they want parliament to put a stop to the project to expand and modernise El Molinar yacht club by adding an extra 100 berths.
The initial project included 200 new berths but in response to heavy opposition from local residents, the project has already been scaled down, but opponents want the current plans scrapped all together.
What the Socialists intend to propose in parliament is that if El Molinar is to be expanded and improved then it must be done so with the full approval and input of the local community.
