IT is two months to the day that the infamous sex game video in Magalluf came to light and the resort has never been far from the headlines ever since. It has been a momentous time for Magalluf and the story is on-going. The arrest of the chief of police this week on charges of extortion was the latest twist in this long-running saga. Now, Magalluf has had a reputation for many years. The Spanish media usually portray the resort as “Brits Behaving Badly” and not a summer goes by without a shock and horror photographic report of  the antics of British tourists in Magalluf. But this year has been different. The Spanish authorities both in Palma and Madrid have been drawn into the issue. The President of the Balearic government Jose Ramon Bauza even dubbed Calle Punta Ballena in Magalluf, the Street of  Shame. Leading hoteliers have slammed the antics of some Magalluf  business owners and the Calvia Council has come under fire from all quarters.  Magalluf has featured prominently in the media both here and abroad. One thing for sure Magalluf will never be the same again. 2014 will be remembered as the year when Magalluf became a major issue in the Balearics both politically and socially. It could even cost the ruling council the elections next year. I sincerely hope that as a result of what has happened in Magalluf this summer the resort will be finally sorted out and cleaned up. I think everyone would agree that Magalluf is no longer fit for purpose.
