Palma
.—Majorca was the most chosen destination in Southern Europe for holiday makers looking for a Summer break, according to a travel website report.
Trivago website analysed searches from citizens from 47 different countries between April, May and June for booking in July and August.
During that period of time, Majorca was the most popular destination, beating rival holiday destinations such as Santorini and Corfu in Greece.
And Majorca was not the only Balearic island to make the top ten.
Ibiza in fifth place and Minorca in tenth were also among the most sought after destinations.
Formentor came twentieth.
In terms of top resorts results were even more positive for the region, with Palma, Sant Antoni and Vila (both in Ibiza) comprising the top three.
Ciutadella in Minorca came eighth.
The Balearic capital seems to be the favourite destination for travellers this summer, ahead of Mykonos in Greece and Santa Cruz in Tenerife.
The average price for a night’s stay in Palma is 146 euros according to Trivago, while the average in Majorca is 164 euros.
