Palma.—The number of people out of work and who have been looking for a job for longer than two months is now 21 times higher than it was when the recession hit in 2008.
In 2008, there were 1,900 long term unemployed, the figure now currently stands at 40,100.
What has caused concern amongst local union leaders is that the rate at which the number of long term unemployed is rising in the Balearics is more than double the national rate.
According to a report published by the human resources company Ranstad yesterday, since 2008, the number of people looking for work for more than two years at a national level has risen ten fold.
40,000 people have been searching for work for more than two years
