The summer sales kick off today with supermarket chains, small and medium businesses set to slash their prices despite a good start to summer trading.
Palma.—As has been usual since the beginning of the recession in 2007, the sales are expected to start with massive savings with shop owners ready to lower the prices on many of their products as much as 50 percent, to attract more customers.
This despite Pimeco, the association who oversees small and medium businesses in Majorca saying sales have been positive over the past few months. In May, sales in small shops in the Balearics grew for the fourteenth consecutive month, with May 2014 figures 3.7 percent higher than during the same period the previous year.
Nonetheless figures have never reached the levels prior to the recession.
“We are now six years into the financial crisis which is why shop owners are determined to start the sales season with attractive and significant discounts,” Bernat Coll, president of Pimeco said yesterday.
