A 78-year-old British resident was found yesterday morning after having been reported missing after he failed to return home on Thursday night.
John Richard Chris Furse, who along with his wife is extremely well known in S’Arraco, he is a biologist and animal lover and always goes for a walk every day between 2pm and 6pm. However, after he failed to return home on Wednesday evening his wife raised the alarm and the search began in the early hours with Andraitx Local Police combing the woodland around the village on motorbikes.
At first light, a command centre was set up at the local football ground with the Guardia Civil mountain rescue team, fire fighters, sniffer dogs, Civil protection and a Guardia Civil helicopter brought in to assist in the search. In total, over 40 people, including Chris’s wife and friends, were involved in the search.Teams combed the area of S’Arraco and Sant Elm but nothing.
However, shortly after 11am a taxi driver appeared at the command centre claiming that he had picked the missing Briton up in Andraitx on Thursday and taken him to the Sa Gramola finca which is popular with hikers heading up to Sa Trapa.
A Guardia Civil unit headed to the area and eventually found Chris on the path to Sa Trapa. He had apparently suffered a fall and injured his legs, but was otherwise safe and sound. The Guardia took him to the local PAC where he was then transferred to Son Espases.
