Palma/Madrid.—Anew traffic law came into effect yesterday and there are numerous changes to the law, including the mandatory wearing of crash helmets for cyclists under 16, children are not allowed to travel in the front seats of vehicles, although there are one or two exceptions, and a vehicle can be immobilised if children are not properly restrained.
Radar speed detectors are prohibited, with the exception of those that relay the information on static cameras, as published on the website of the DGT traffic department.
Traffic police will no longer have to stop a vehicle caught breaking the law and can issue a sanction remotely, although the time in which the fine can be appealed or paid at a reduced rate has been increased.
