Palma.—The Balearic Minister for Public Administration, Nuria Riera, yesterday announced that this summer, there will be a 42-strong force of the Local Police who have been specially trained to handle tourists and tourism-related problems.
The SPAT programme, is being launched this year and 19 councils across the Balearics which have expressed an interest in having the new tourist police operating in their municipalities.
All of the 42 officers have been trained by the Balearic School for Public Administration and will be able to provide important back up in some of the region’s busiest and conflictive holiday resorts.
