Palma’s Son San Joan airport was the setting for a major airline hijack training exercise yesterday staged by the Agency for Air Security (AESA).
Palma.—This is only the second time such an exercise has been carried out in the Balearics and the primary aim of the operation was to make sure that all those agencies involved in handling a hijack situation are up to speed with their training and that they can successfully deal with such a situation.
The exercise consisted of an aircraft full of passengers being hijacked by armed terrorists.
The agencies involved in the exercise, the Guardia Civil, National Police, the air force, the airport authority AENA and the central government delegation, Teresa Palmer who was yesterday in charge of the Local Air Hijack Response Committee.
