BAUZA WANTS TO CULL 16 MPS

|

Palma.—Sixteen MPs face losing  their seats if the President of the Balearics, Jose Ramon Bauza, goes ahead with a new move to save public funds and reduce the regional deficit.
Bauza unveiled his parliamentary reforms plans yesterday with the main shake up being a reduction in the number of MPs to 43 from the current 59.
According to the President, this move would  save an estimated 11 million euros per legislature.
Broken down by islands, Majorca would lose nine MPs and be left with 24, Minorca would have four less, leaving it with a total of nine MPs while Ibiza would be left with nine MPs after losing three.
There will be no changes for the island of Formentera as it only has one MP.
