Palma city Council has agreed to analyse carefully the true cost it will take to refurbish the old Gas and Electricity (GESA)building on Palma´s seafront, Jesus Valls from the council’s Urban Planning department confirmed yesterday.
The building was last week declared a listed building and Valls said the council will “accept the decision to protect it” and has “promised to keep it in a good state of repair.”
The 15 floor building, built in the late 70’s, has been the subject of several discussions but over the years it was never clear what the authorities wanted to do with it, leading to its current run down state. It was first sold by power company Endesa, which owns GESA, to a construction company, which wanted to demolish it and build a series of luxury flats.
Costs to fix Gesa building to be analysed by Palma city council
