The nautical industry has continued to grow despite the recession, but the sector fears it needs more help.

Palma.—The nautical tourism  industry is  expecting to see further growth of around 12 percent this year, according to Rafael Moreno, head of the Spanish association of yacht clubs.
Apparently, despite the recession, the nautical tourism industry has enjoyed continual growth over the past five  years.
In 2005, for example, the sector turned over 985 million euros, by 2012, that figure had grown to 2,500 million euros “despite the recession,” Moreno said yesterday.
He said that nautical tourism has helped some destinations prolong their tourist seasons and underlined the fact that a nautical tourist will on average spend 154 euros, per day, while cruise passengers may spend an average of 75 euros a day, should they come ashore while in port.
