No right of complaint

I was rather astounded to read that a British resident on the mainland had contacted the British Embassy calling on the ambassador to intercede with the BBCand resolve the problem of no BBC signal in some parts of the mainland. Let us remember that we shouldn´t be watching the programmes in the first place and I am sure that the British ambassador has better things to do than trying to resolve our satellite television problems! If we were all paying a licence fee then obviously we would have a valid case and I would be the first to contact the British Embassy. But really we haven´t got a leg to stand on! We have no right of complaint and the only thing that we can do is hope that with a bigger satellite dish we will be able to watch the BBCagain. The satellite problem has a become a major debate in expatriate circles on the island at the moment and satellite television firms are working around the clock to try and find a solution. But I wouldn´t advice anyone to pen a letter to the BBC. Their answer will be blunt and to the point. In some ways it is quite understandable because we are getting the best of British television for nothing. I have always thought that one of the reasons why the BBC and ITVmoved to a new satellite was to stop people watching  their programming outside the United Kingdom. Expats may get a raw deal on benefits from the British government and even on voting but when it comes to television we are laughing all the way to the bank.
