Value for money

|

MAJORCA has a reputation for  being expensive and Palma is not cheap. A gin and tonic in a central city bar costs 12 euros but I would say that bars in the resorts offer value for money. In  some ways it was like a breath  of fresh air, because  for once Ithought I was not being ripped off! I was in Palmanova last weekend in the glorious sunshine and eventhough many of the hotels and shops have still not opened there were tourists about. One bar, just up from the sea-front was offering two pints of beer for two euros. Incredible  value for money. Sometimes you are lucky in Palma if you can have half-a-pint for that money.   It was the same story in many of the bars just back from the sea-front. The two pints even came with a small plate of biscuits. Well, Icongratuled the owner for his prices and very well run bar. In some ways his prices are a sign of the times. All-inclusive holidays have hit bar owners hard and they have to keep their prices low, in some cases ridiculously low, to get the punters. But tourists shouldn´t complain that prices are high, especially in Palmanova/Magalluf. The majority of the tourists in these two resorts were Spanish last weekend, most  pensioners on state funded holidays.  Even they couldn´t believe some of the prices. I only wish that bar owners in Palma and other areas would take note. Sometimes, putting your prices down works alot better than putting them up which has become a standard Palma practice at the moment.
