I think the Pollensa council should be congratulated for pushing ahead with plans for the pedestrianisation of the promenade in the port. They have faced opposition from residents and even a lack of cash from the local ministry of tourism but this project does now appear to be back on track which Ithink is fantastic news. Pollensa has one of the nicest promenades in Majorca. The view is quite breath-taking and if it was car free like other big promenades such as the Playa de Palma, Pollensa would certainly benefit. In the Playa de Palma the scheme has worked very successfully although the promenade is open to some vehicles, public transport and ofcourse cyclists. I suspect that Pollensa will do the same. Having a car-fee environment on the promenade will help bring new life to the port and might even entice more people to leave their hotels for a pleasant walk down to the port and back. The local ministry for tourism should surely try and find the necessary funds to complete the project. Afterall the council is not seeking a major windfall and I suspect that hotels in the port are paying far more that they get back at the moment. So come on ministry for tourism, spend the cash and invest in the future of Pollensa. It continues to be one of the few resorts on the island which always receives a top billing from tourists. Money is being spent on other resorts so that Pollensa also deserves it fair share especially as it is one of the top holiday spots on the island.
