After years of fighting to have the matriculation tax for yachts of 15 metres in length over turned, the yachting industry appears to have finally succeeded.

Palma.—As a result of heavy lobbying by the yachting industry and the Partido Popular Euro MP for the Balearics, Rosa Estras, in Bruusels, last November, orders were given for the matriculation, which has crippled the charter industry for years and lost the country’s nautical industry hundreds if not thousands of  millions of euros in lost revenue to be scrapped inSpain. However, it is not all plain sailing.
Jonathan Syrett, the Managing Director of Camper & Nicholsons International in Palma, said yesterday  that on Wednesday night an extremely positive and very well attended meeting was held at the Chamber of Commerce with the Balearic government, represented by the President, Jose Ramon Bauza and the Minister for Tourism,  Jaime Martínez and leading lights in the nautical industry from across the Balearics.
