Palma.—Unemployment in Spain got off to a poor start this year with only the Balearics registering a drop in the number of people out of work during January.
Last month, the number of jobless people in the Balearics fell by 480 people, or 0.53 percent.
The region’s total number of unemployed now stands at 90,735 and year-on-year, that represents a fall of 4,774 people, or five percent, in comparison to January 2013.
Figures released on Monday revealed that the number of people working as domestic assistants rose by 2.13 percent last year. As of 1 January, 12,125 were working as a domestic assistant and there has also been a slight rise in the number of people employed in the service sector over the Winter.
