Palma.—This week, with a second British company looking to prospect for oil and gas to the North East and East of Majorca and Minorca, the President of the Balearics, Jose Ramon Bauza, said that the region “doesn’t need oil and gas because tourism is what fuels the economy” and vowed to protect the region’s interests.
Yesterday, the Balearic government, based on the results of a study carried out by the Balearic Environmental Commission, announced that it is going to go above the heads of central government in Madrid and take its case against gas and oil prospecting in the region to Brussels.
