VICTORIA Beckham is hoping that husband David surprises her with a holiday to Majorca for Christmas.
Victoria was one of the many celebrities, including Liz Hurley, Lawrence Dallaglio, Chris Evans, Sadie Frost, Sir Elton John and George Michael, to name just a few, asked to take part in the annual Celebrity Christmas Stocking Auction organised by the Macmillan Cancer Support charity. For the tenth year running, the charity invited some of the world's favourite stars to create their dream Christmas stocking and Victoria is reported to have listed a holiday at the Hotel Esplenido, the sister hotel to the Hotel Portixol, in the Port of Soller. A year's supply of Rob Van Helden flowers, a case of Louis Roederer Cristal Champagne and a De Grisogono watch were also on her Christmas list.
Michael, the director of the two hotels said yesterday he was amazed but also extremely pleased and that Victoria Beckham, would obviously be more than welcome. Earlier this year it was rumoured that David Beckham had been on the island looking at property in the Soller, Banyalbufar regions but the hotel would not comment on whether or not he used the hotel as his base. The rest of the Beckham family will probably be hoping for a Wii, Ipod or Pirates of the Caribbean themed games, the most popular presents in the Balearics this Christmas. In the toy department, apart from anything and everything related to the Pirates of the Caribbean films, traditional toys, such as board games and dolls, have sold as well as usual but radio-controlled vehicles, in particular Fernando Alonso's Renault Formula One car, are also in big demand. According to department store El Corte Inglés, the latest in video-consoles, the Wii, has literally flown of the shelves and that most were reserved before they even arrived at their two Palma stores. Digital terrestrial television receivers and GPS systems are proving popular with husbands and fathers, along with lap-tops and 42-inch flat screen televisions while it is white gold and diamonds for mothers and wives. Digital cameras and the latest fragrances are also proving extremely popular for both him and her.
The latest books, DVDs and compact discs are popular with all the family.
For those with any doubts as to what to buy, especially for young children and babies, El Corte Inglés has set up a special advice desk at its Palma stores.
Experts are advising parents on what the most suitable toys are for the various age groups and which will provide the maximum level of entertainment.
