PALMA
TWO Polish suspects were yesterday behind bars in Palma prison after being remanded in custody following a violent robbery in Palma.
The two men, one armed with a 60 centimetre machete and the other a pistol, apparently stormed a Palma news agent in calle Jeroni Amengual on November 20.
The lone female employee was tortured, blind folded and tied to a chair while the two armed robbers ransacked the shop in search of money and valuable items.
They apparently escaped with 6.555 euros, leaving the victim in a severe state of shock and with bruises and bite marks. The National Police Serious Crime squad opened an immediate investigation for fears that the two professional armed robbers could strike again.
The first breakthrough came on Monday when one of the two men was arrested in Paguera.
The other was detained later the same day in Cala Mayor and when the police searched their homes, two pistols, a machete, two mobile telephones and the Swiss military ski mask used in the robbery allegedly were found.
The two men appeared before a preliminary hearing yesterday afternoon and the judge ordered that they be held in prison.
